RDA Regional Championships Results 2017

What a fantastic day it was!  Despite the weatherman’s predictions we had glorious sunshine at Hartpury for the RDA Regional Competition.  Fun was had by all, and riders and volunteers alike have told us what a lovely atmosphere it was.

Whilst it is very much the taking part that counts, we are delighted to announce that ten of our riders qualified for the National Competition, so a huge congratulations to them.

Well done to everyone who took part, and thank you very much to all the wonderful volunteers who gave up their time to support the event.  It simply could not have happened without you.

Fun Show Jumping Competition on April 19th

April 19th was the Avon Centre’s first ever RDA Show Jumping event and once again we were lucky to have perfect spring day, ensuring that everyone had the very best chance to enjoy the day!

None of us were quite sure how many entries we would receive because there are still only a few SJ Groups within our Mid West Region. However with thirty entries over the four main Classes we were very pleasantly surprised.

There has been some very positive feedback from everyone, both on the day and afterwards, with many riders keenly anticipating the next opportunity to demonstrate their skills, therefore we are sure that the Centre will look to organise more SJ events in the future as well as our dressage days of course.

We had a plan to add an extra Class 6 if there was sufficient interest in doing a slightly different course with a couple more fences at the Level 3 height but decided in the end that it had been a really good day and rebuilding the course at that stage would have taken too much time for just the two riders that had entered.

RDA Regional Qualifying Competition

On Thursday May 18th at Summerhouse Equestrian Centre we will sending 17 riders to the RDA Regional Qualifying Competition.  There will be classes in Dressage at all levels, and the Countryside Challenge which is similar to a handy pony course, including obstacles of various sorts for the riders to negotiate.

We hope that we will be successful in qualifying some of our riders for the RDA National Championships in July.

Times are here

RDA National Championships 2017

The RDA National Championships take place every year at Hartpury College and are one of the largest equestrian events in the world.  There are competitions in Dressage, Countryside Challenge, Carriage Driving, Vaulting, Show Jumping and Showing.  Riders with disabilities come to the championships from all over the country having qualified at each of their regional competitions.

You can find out more on the RDA website

Horse Owners Dressage Clinics

On Thursday May 11th, Avon Riding Centre and Bristol Horse Riding will be offering dressage clinics for horse owners with BHS Registered Instructor, Alexandra Richards.  Alex competes regularly up to medium level dressage, and her teaching method focuses on rider biomechanics and getting the best out of the partnership between rider and horse.

This is the perfect opportunity to focus on the test of your choice, with several chances to ride the test and see where you would be able to pick up marks.  Our arena has an integrated sound system, so there is also the option of practising a musical test.

These will be 45 minute, private sessions and allocated on a first come first served basis.  The cost will be £30.

To book please call the Centre on 0117 9590266.  Payment can be taken on a card at the time of booking.

Class 1 Dressage 002

RDA Dressage Day Friday 17th February 2017

This was our first fun competition for a whole year due to our indoor arena being resurfaced in the October half term. Once again we were fortunate to have a lovely calm, reasonably warm and at times sunny day.

The day ran smoothly, thanks to all our volunteers who worked so hard in the organisation of this event. There were smiles on peoples’ faces whether they were in first place or receiving a ‘Well Done’ rosette and it was really lovely to share the day with riders from some of the other RDA Groups from around our Region. It wouldn’t be the same without you so thank you for making the journey to join in.

As always there were some riders who were disappointed not to be able to get a space in their chosen Class but we do have a limit on how many entries we can fit in on the day unfortunately. Better luck next time!

I would like to take this opportunity to praise the work of our stable staff led by Charmaine Lane who prepared our horses and ponies so beautifully. Congratulations also to all the other groups for their well turned out horses and ponies – not an easy job at this time of year!

We hope to see at least some of you in the Easter holidays when we plan to run our first RDA Show Jumping fun competition – more details to follow soon but meanwhile make a note in your diaries for Wednesday 19th April.
