Disabled Riding

Riding for all

Avon Riding Centre has excellent facilities, including a large indoor arena and floodlit outdoor all weather surface  arena. We offer lessons to disabled and non disabled riders from beginners, through to jumping and preparing for Regional and National Competitions (RDA).  We have extensive land for hacking and a simulator.

Disabled Riding

Normally takes place at the following times during term time.

Monday 10.30- 7.30
Tuesday 10.00-4.30
Wednesday 10.00-4.00
Thursday 9.45-3.45
Friday 10.00-4.30
Saturday 10.00-12:45

Whatever your disability, we will consider your application to ride with us provided that we have a recommendation from a clinician or have confirmation from your GP that your condition does not preclude you from riding (section 3 of the registration form) and:

You are within a weight and age range suitable for our horses and ponies.  You must be over 5 years old and weigh no more than our current weight limit of 12 1/2 stone in full riding gear.

Once a space becomes available that may be suitable for you, you will be invited in for an assessment with one of our RDA Instructors.

Our clients then ride regularly at the same time each week and are billed 6-8 weeks in advance.  Lessons are charged at £16.00 for each 45 minute lesson and £13.00 for each 30 minute lesson.

Spaces are offered on a term by term basis and due to our lengthy waiting list you may be asked to occasionally ‘take a break’ for a term.

Please complete an application form and return it to us.  You will be contacted for an assessment session when we have a space that might be appropriate for you. We have a waiting list of between 12 and 24 months.

Lessons provide therapy, enjoyment and achievement to riders with a wide range of physical disabilities and learning difficulties.  We monitor and provide regular feedback to our clients, or their carer, on their progress, ensuring they receive the maximum benefit from their riding sessions.

Our lessons prepare clients for entry into dressage competitions, if and when they feel they would like to.  We have regular success at RDA regional and national level. There is, however, no pressure to enter competitions for those who simply want to achieve their personal goals.

We offer stable management and individual lessons during school holidays subject to availability.
